Our relationships with donors, pilots, partners and passengers form the foundation of our work, and are of the utmost importance to us, as we strive to accelerate conservation success through the powerful perspective of flight.
INFORMATION WE COLLECT
We use personal information to process payments, and to communicate with donors, pilots, passengers, partners and others about LightHawk, to seek funding and volunteer support, to fulfill our mission, and for other aspects of LightHawk operations.
Information we gather may include:
- Contact information such as name, address, telephone number and email address and other information provided by the donor
- Events attended, publications received, requests for information, and comments and suggestions made
This confidential information is kept on file for operational or tax purposes. It is also used to analyze overall interaction with LightHawk to build budget projections, understand interest in our mission, and to update constituents on our plans, activities and achievements.
LightHawk limits access to financial information to professional staff, board members or consultants who need to process that information for the purposes described above. Any information shared is on a confidential, need-to-know basis.
We use business partners, including payment processors, to provide online services. The privacy policies of these organizations are available to you on their respective websites and typically also as part of your donation process. If you pay by credit card, we do not store your credit card information, bank account numbers, or other financial account data sent directly to those processing services.
All mailed gift information is kept in a securely encrypted cloud storage providing the highest level of security and confidentiality.
We are committed to protecting donor personal information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. Among other things, we undertake a range of security practices, including measures to help secure web access to sensitive data and undertake efforts to address security vulnerabilities for various tools and databases.
LightHawk will maintain an electronic record of all requests for discontinuance of contacts. Verbal requests will be recorded permanently in the electronic database. The records of persons who have made such a request will be maintained by LightHawk to the extent necessary for legal or liability purposes.
LightHawk will never sell, rent, trade or share its lists with any other organization.
USE OF “COOKIES”
At LightHawk we strive to communicate with donors according to their expressed preferences whenever possible. You can change and update your mailing preferences at any time by contacting us at the email or phone number below.
Upon a person’s (or a person’s authorized representative’s) request that LightHawk discontinue further contact, the person’s name and address will be promptly modified in LightHawk’s database to ensure no further contact. LightHawk will also remove that information from any external databases or records under LightHawk’s control. You may still receive one or two mailings as some of our mailings are sent to our mail marketing service provider months in advance. We apologize for this inconvenience.

DONOR BILL OF RIGHTS
We support the Donor Bill of Rights as adopted by the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
Philanthropy is based on voluntary action for the common good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life. To assure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general public, and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in the nonprofit organizations and causes they are asked to support, we declare that all donors have these rights:
- To be informed of the organization’s mission, of the way the organization intends to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.
- To be informed of the identity of those serving on the organization’s governing board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities.
- To have access to the organization’s most recent financial statements.
- To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.
- To receive appropriate acknowledgment and recognition.
- To be assured that information about their donations is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by law.
- To expect that all relationships with individuals representing organizations of interest to the donor will be professional in nature.
- To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the organization or hired solicitors.
- To have the opportunity for their names to be deleted from mailing lists.
- To feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful and forthright answers.
