Evan Anderman and our team put a lot of thought into planning a LightHawk fly-in in Seattle last week. When we learned that many of our pilots were already registered for the Recreational Aviation Foundation’s educational conference, we shifted our plans to join them there. Thank you to Evan and everyone who helped make the weekend possible.
It was a terrific opportunity for LightHawk to show up, reconnect with our pilots, meet new people, and listen. The RAF team and pilots welcomed us with such warmth and generosity. They made us feel right at home, and I’m grateful they included us in their community for the weekend.
I came away energized from the event!

LightHawk staff and volunteer pilots reconnect at the Recreational Aviation Foundation’s educational conference in Seattle.
Even with the change in plans, we were able to keep some highlights of our original itinerary, including a special trip to the Boeing Factory. I don’t think anyone will ever forget it. Thank you, Evan!
Our pilots also shared what’s on their minds. Dave Warner and Steve Williams expressed interest in more opportunities to fly, and Randy Beebe has already followed up about ways to get involved. Chuck Schroll helped us make valuable connections throughout the week and shared concerns from his network about the growing difficulty of volunteer flying into Mexico.
Those conversations made it clear that our pilots are eager to contribute. We need to keep creating meaningful opportunities to fly while staying attentive to the challenges they face.
The weekend also reminded me how much experience and talent we already have in our community. Alongside welcoming new pilots, we need to help those already connected to LightHawk put their skills to work for conservation.

Seattle reminded me how much can happen when we make time to listen, connect, and welcome people into LightHawk’s work. Now our job is to build on those connections—with more conservation flights, stronger partnerships, and stories that inspire people to get involved.
Whether we saw you in Seattle or connect with you elsewhere, I’d love to hear about your experience with LightHawk and how you’d like to be involved.
