Who flies with us

LightHawk collaborates with groups and individuals across the U.S. and parts of Mexico and Canada, from land trusts and researchers to tribes, journalists, and photographers, who need the aerial perspective to move a project forward.

LightHawk works with partners to define the conservation goal, determine where aviation can make the greatest difference, and build the right flight strategy around it. Our network of 275+ experienced volunteer pilots then contributes the aircraft, time, and expertise needed to carry out those missions at no direct cost to qualifying partners, making aviation accessible.

Partners return with the imagery, data, and firsthand understanding needed to inform decisions, strengthen advocacy, advance research, and engage others in the work.

The Process

What a partnership looks like

From first conversation to first flight, here’s what working with LightHawk looks like.

1. Bring us the mission

Tell us the conservation outcome you’re working toward. If aviation can make a significant contribution, we’ll get there together.

2. Co-design the campaign

Our conservation team plans routes, altitudes, timing, and goals with you and the pilot— so every hour in the air moves the mission forward.

3. Fly, at no direct cost

A volunteer pilot donates the flight. You bring the mission home: imagery, data, stories, and momentum.

4. Close the loop

Share your flight feedback and imagery upon landing. It doesn’t just wrap up your mission, it opens the door to the next one.
