Tripods in the Sky: Gunnison Sage-Grouse from LightHawk on Vimeo.
The Scoop:
Gunnison, located in west-central Colorado, is the home to the Gunnison Sage-Grouse, a species that will soon be added to the endangered species list. These remaining birds, somewhere around 3,000, depend on the healthy sagebrush in the ranching-public land interface for survival. In order for the species to recover, a balance between conservation and preservation must be found, while maintaining a respect for traditional ranching and recreation.
Big challenges lie ahead for the Gunnison community and its namesake grouse; and although every stakeholder may have a unique perspective, they'll keep working together to give the Gunnison Sage-grouse a fighting chance.
